Oscar Night For The Pirates!

The 85th Academy Awards are announced in Los Angeles later tonight, and among the movies in contention for one of the much coveted awards is the 2012 claymation feature The Pirates! Directed by British animation legend and Aardman co-founder Peter Lord and based on Gideon Defoe’s cult novel series, The Pirates! Martin Freeman, Imelda Staunton, Brian Blessed and Salma Hayek also lend their voices to the film.

The Animated feature Film category is as follows:
  • "Brave" Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman
  • "Frankenweenie" Tim Burton
  • "ParaNorman" Sam Fell and Chris Butler
  • "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" Peter Lord
  • "Wreck-It Ralph" Rich Moore
