National Space Centre's Science Of The Time Lords Event

Leicester's National Space Centre is running a Science Of The The Time Lords event on Saturday 16th November from 10am - 5pm.

The day will be a celebration of 50 years of Doctor Who and will feature special guests including the former companions Frazer Hines, Sophie Aldred, Nicola Bryant and Louise Jameson, voice of the Daleks and Cybermen Nicholas Briggs and Marvel Comic's illustrator Lee Sullivan.

The National Space Centre says:

Celebrate 50 amazing years with a look at the science behind Doctor Who – we'll be looking at Time Trave, Teleportation, Regeneration, Robots, Space Travel and providing you with all the information you'll need to stop the next alien invasion over Cardiff on Christmas Day!
  • Can I regenerate?
  • Will we ever travel through time?
  • How does the Sonic Screwdriver work?
These are just some of the questions you've been asking us as we celebrate and amazing 50 years of Doctor Who on television.

When Doctor Who started in 1963, it was planned as a semi educational science fiction series, but it always generated more questions than it answered.

Meet The CompanionsWe're thrilled that four of the Doctors time travelling companions will be joining us for the day

Sophie Aldred played Ace, the streetwise rebellious teenager. With her baseball bat, badge covered jacket and homemade Nitro Nine explosives, she travelled with the seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, battling Daleks, Vampires and Robotic Clowns! Scary stuff!

Nicola Bryant played Perpugillium Brown - that's Peri for short - opposite both Peter Davison and Colin Baker's Doctors. A university student studying Botany, Peri's inquisitive nature saw her at the mercy of the Cybermen, and face the Doctor's arch nemesis, The Master!

Louise Jameson appeared as Leela, savage warrior of the Sevateem, a lost tribe on a planet visited by the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker. Battling Rutans, fearsome Fendahl, the cunning Collector, Leela faced danger armed with her pouch of Janus Thorns and a hunters cunning! (Appearing 12:00 - 16:00)

Frazer Hines starred opposite the second Doctor, Patrick Troughton, playing Jamie McCrimmon. Rescued from the battle of Culloden, the youthful highlander saw off the Cybermen and Daleks, battled Yeti, Macra & Krotons, before returning to Earth and having the memory of his time travel adventures wiped by the Time Lords.
Frazer returned to the series on two more occasions, appearing in The Five Doctors (1983) and The Two Doctors (1986)

The Monster Challenge
Voice of the Daleks and Cybermen, Nicholas Briggs, returns to the National Space Centre with the Monster Challenge – giving you the opportunity to try out the Ring Modulator Nick uses on the show and exercise your vocal skills to create the perfect Alien voice!
