Gregory Doran On David Tennant's Magnificently Regal New Look

With his long golden toned locks and opulent robes, David Tennant's image for his role as Richard II in the new Royal Shakespeare Company production, is nothing short of religiously regal. Lit by the glow of the spotlight David looks positively ethereal as he saunters his way across the stage.

Director Gregory Doran says:
"The long hair is partly to respond to the notion of Richard as an aesthete, whose rarified court stood in opposition to the belligerent Dukes. It also reflects his conscious positioning of himself as Christ betrayed by Judas. In the deposition scene he refers to himself several times directly as Christ."

The show opened for previews on 10th October and will play in residence at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon until 16th November 2013 when it will then transfer to The Barbican in London.

The run is completely sold out, but there may be returns. You can ask for returns by phoning the RSC Ticket Hotline on 0844 800 1110.
