CONFIRMED: Marvel's Jessica Jones To Launch On Netflix By The End Of 2015

The first full day of the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour 2015 has seen Netflix presenting their output for the 2015/16 season, including news on the new series Marvel's Jessica Jones starring David Tennant and Krysten Ritter.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix CCO, confirmed that Marvel's Jessica Jones would be released to Netflix in the final quarter of 2015 (as we've already posted, our understanding has been that it is due in October).

Meanwhile Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg emphasised that the show would be wildly different in look and tone to Daredevil, the first of the five Netflix / Marvel Defenders series. She also said that they went a lot further than the comics did.

A brief glimpse of the show was included in the Netflix sizzle reel, showing Krysten Ritter as Jessica walking down a street and opening a door.

Sarandos also explained that viewers could expect to see the Marvel Defenders series premiering about every six months. Following Jessica Jones there will be adaptations of Luke Cage (starring Mike Colter) and Iron Fist, and a Defenders miniseries. Sarandos also hinted that some of the series could develop into future movies.

Some of the Defenders adaptations would run to more than one season (a second season of Daredevil has already been confirmed).

The MarvelMAX comic book series Alias by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos has been adapted and executive produced by Melissa Rosenberg and also stars Mike Colter, Carrie-Anne Moss and Rachael Taylor. During her appearance on the Showrunners' panel Rosenberg said that Marvel fans could expect to see some obscure comicbook characters appearing in the series who are being taken all over the place.

She also praised the support that she was receiving from Marvel, singling out Jeph Loeb in particular as an incredible creative partner.

Jessica Jones is a co-production of Marvel Television and ABC Studios and will premiere exclusively on Netflix.
